| | Long Island New York Striped Bass Fishing & Fishing Tips |
|---|
The striped bass fishery on Long Island, New York has made an incredible comeback due largely to the cleanup of the Hudson River, one of the primary spawning grounds for the striper. Tighter controls on the commercial harvest of the striped bass as well as those of recreational fishermen have also played a part in the burgeoning population of the striped bass.
Stripers are the first to show in Long Island's waters in the early spring. As the season progresses into the summer months stripers are king of their domain, as they warily stalk the flats in search of a wide variety of prey items including sand eels, spearing, grass shrimp, and crabs. It is here, at bonefish depths, where we seek out striped bass with fly and spin tackle from my skiff. Plying these shallow gin-clear waters we will have many opportunities at hooking this trophy class fish. It's exciting, action oriented fishing no matter what type of fishing tackle you prefer to fish with.
As the summer months draw to an end we shift our attention towards Montauk and the fall migration. Striped bass mingle with both bluefish and false albacore as they fatten up on the shoals of a myriad of baits including bay anchovies, menhaden, and herring. During the fall months we have countless opportunities to attain the "Northeast Grand Slam" as well as some of those 20 lb. + striped bass that are lazily feeding underneath the prominent surface blitzes.Click» for more info about NY striper fishing seasons. | "It is here, at shallow bonefish depths, where we seek out striped bass with fly and spin tackle." |
