Fishing Report for the Hamptons Looking forward to the entire season! We're catching bass up to 17 lbs. off of Gardiners early and late on cooler incoming water and we're catching Blues up to 12 lbs. all day long! The flats fishing in Shinnecock Bay has been tremendous! School bass up to 9 lbs. tailing on cow nosed rays. We've been throwing spearing imitation epoxy minnows in their direction and they've been crushing them! | | | |
| Nice Albie from off of Montauk Point | | Fishing Report for Key West, FloridaStrong North East winds killed any real chances of decent tarpon fishing through the middle of May. Once the Flats warmed back up and tarpon started eating, all of us guides started to regain our sanity! I enjoyed the company of Joe Quinn and his brother Mike one late May morning as Mike, on his first cast, hooked into a 75 lb. tarpon off of Fort Zachary Taylor! Mike, an experienced fisherman from Michigan, duped the tarpon with a redhead Mirrolure on 17 lb. test subduing the fish in a little over an hour! Great job Mike!! During the middle of June, Richard Furneisen, no more than about an hour or so off the plane, caught his first tarpon on the fly at sunset off of Boca Grande Key. The tarpon weighed in at 60 lbs. and was subdued in 40 minutes on 15 lb. shock tippet with a 2/0 "Marquesa Sunrise" fly. Richard is a frequent guest aboard Gunkholin' Charters and can be viewed in my photo gallery in the Hamptons section clutching a false albacore and a bluefish. Thanks for all the fond memories Richard, and to everyone else for making the season another great success! |
